Models and Natural Looking Shots

Now, for your models. It is best to take pictures of children you know well in order to capture them in their natural environment. Know their personalities so you can accurately try and capture them on film. Younger siblings or your own children are ideal, there are no other children that you can know near as well as those within your own family. A cousin's or a friend's children are also a good choice.

Now look for times when the children feel at ease around your camera, are in their natural environment, and are displaying their own personalities. I like Mrs. M's suggestion of using food.
That can be a very good way to get almost any child to forget the camera. Get creative, think of ways to occupy them, and keep their mind off the camera. This will reward you with more natural looking shots.

Think of things your "model" likes to do, or just observe their interests. Don't think you have to have a real fancy set-up, just let them do what what they naturally like to do, and film it.
